In a June 5th, 2008 School Board work session, FCPS Superintendent Jack Dale expressed concern about the challenge of a grading scale "serving many masters" including vehicle insurance discounts and sports eligibility.  

FAIRGRADE understands Dr. Dale's  concerns, and maintains that college admissions, merit scholarships and entrance into college Honors programs are the priority points in the debate over grading policies. 

However, FAIRGRADE does acknowledge that vehicle insurance discounts and athletic eligibility requirements are still practical, financial issues for many FCPS families.

All male and unmarried female drivers under 25 who are full-time students in high school or at a college or university, and the scholastic records for the immediately preceding school semester show that this student meets at least one of the following:

    * Ranked scholastically in the upper 20% of his or her class.
    * Had a grade average of B or higher.
    * Had a grade point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher.
    * Was included in the Dean's List or Honor Roll.

Drivers who are full time students could be eligible for up to a 15 percent discount on certain coverages. For most states, policyholders between the ages of 16 and 25, who are full-time students with a "B" average or better, are eligible for this discount.
